Saturn Ion: The Compact With a Quirky Cabin
The Ion was Saturn's compact car of the 2000s, notable for its center-mounted instruments and available quad-coupe doors.
Produced from 2003 to 2007, the Ion replaced the original S-Series as Saturn's compact car. It featured some unconventional touches, including a center-mounted instrument cluster and, on the coupe, rear-hinged quad-coupe access doors for easier rear-seat entry.
The Ion used four-cylinder engines, including a supercharged Red Line performance version developed with input from GM Performance. It continued Saturn's dent-resistant polymer body panels for the doors and fenders.
The Ion was a practical, distinctive compact, remembered for its quirky features and the sporty Red Line version, before being replaced by the Astra.
