Lincoln Zephyr: The Entry-Level Luxury Sedan
The Zephyr was a Lincoln nameplate used both for a streamlined 1930s sedan and a 2006 mid-size luxury car that became the MKZ.
The Zephyr name has two distinct chapters. The original Lincoln-Zephyr of 1936 to 1942 was a streamlined, aerodynamic luxury car that helped Lincoln survive the Depression and influenced later design, including the Continental.
The name returned briefly for the 2006 model year on a mid-size entry-luxury sedan based on the Ford Fusion platform. This modern Zephyr was renamed the MKZ after just one year as Lincoln adopted its alphanumeric naming scheme.
The Zephyr name connects Lincoln's streamlined design heritage with its modern entry-luxury sedan, and it has also been revived for the Chinese market in recent years.
