Datsun
BRE 510. Datsun's compact sport sedan (1968-1973). SCCA Trans-Am 2.5 champion. Independent rear suspension, L-series engine.
The Datsun 510 is a compact sport sedan produced from 1968 to 1973. The 510 became famous through the BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) racing program led by Pete Brock; BRE 510s won SCCA Trans-Am 2.5 championships in 1971 and 1972. The orange-and-red BRE livery became iconic. The 510 used L-series inline-four engines (initially 1.6L, later 1.8L). Independent rear suspension was unusual for the price segment. Two-door coupe and four-door sedan body styles. Curb weight under 2,200 pounds. Manual transmission standard. Modern 510 prices have appreciated as the cars become recognized future classics. Project 510s start around $5,000-$10,000; clean BRE-tribute or original 510s sell for $15,000-$40,000+. On WhipJury, 510 submissions are uncommon but always memorable, particularly BRE-tribute liveries.
