What is Cosworth?
A British high-performance engineering company famous for its Formula 1 engines and for tuned road-car engines like the Ford Sierra Cosworth.
Cosworth was founded in 1958 by Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth, whose surnames form the company name. It became one of the most successful engine builders in motorsport history, most famously through the Cosworth DFV Formula 1 engine, which powered cars to more than 150 grand prix victories from the late 1960s onward.
For enthusiasts, the Cosworth name is closely tied to fast Fords. The Sierra RS Cosworth and Escort RS Cosworth of the 1980s and 1990s became rally and touring-car legends, their turbocharged engines bearing Cosworth engineering. The "Cossie" badge remains highly desirable among collectors.
Today Cosworth continues as an engineering and electronics firm, building engines for hypercars such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie and supplying high-performance data and powertrain technology. The name remains a byword for serious, race-bred engineering.
