Subaru
The quirky car-pickup hybrid (2003-2006). Outback-based with an open bed and a cult following.
The Subaru Baja is a quirky, niche vehicle that blended a car-based crossover with a small open pickup bed, based on the Outback. Produced from 2003 to 2006, it featured Subaru standard all-wheel drive, boxer power, and a Switchback pass-through to extend cargo from the cabin into the short bed. The Baja sold in small numbers and was an oddball in its day, but it has since developed a cult following for its unique car-truck format, all-weather capability, and rarity. Turbocharged versions add performance interest. On WhipJury, the Baja appears as a beloved, quirky car-pickup with a devoted niche following.
