Hummer H2: The 2000s SUV Icon
The H2 was a large, boldly styled SUV that brought Hummer attitude to a more usable, GM-based platform during the 2000s.
Launched in 2002, the H2 made the Hummer brand far more accessible than the extreme H1. Built on a modified GM full-size truck platform, it delivered rugged styling and genuine off-road ability in a package buyers could actually use day to day, with a more conventional interior and gasoline V8 power.
The H2 became a cultural icon of the 2000s, symbolizing the era's appetite for big, attention-grabbing SUVs. It was both celebrated and criticized, often singled out for its thirst for fuel as gas prices rose.
Despite the controversy, the H2 sold strongly for a time and remains the image most people associate with the Hummer brand. Production ended in 2009 as economic conditions and shifting tastes turned against large SUVs.
