Renault Scenic: The Compact MPV Pioneer
The Scenic helped pioneer the compact MPV segment, a clever, flexible people-carrier based on the Megane.
Launched in 1996, the Scenic was a trailblazer that helped create the compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) segment in Europe. Based on the Megane, it offered a tall, flexible interior with versatile, removable, and reconfigurable seating that maximized family practicality.
The Scenic became hugely popular, spawning a longer seven-seat Grand Scenic and influencing countless rivals. It emphasized clever packaging, comfort, and family-friendly versatility.
More recently, the Scenic name was revived for an all-electric crossover, the Scenic E-Tech. The original Scenic remains significant as a pioneer of the practical compact MPV.
